Traveling and hotels are one of the many industry segments that make up the larger hospitality, leisure, and recreation market. These are industries that have an enormous impact on the global economy and the jobs they create.

For example, if you’re looking for a more social stay that will allow you to meet other travelers, hostels might be the best choice. If you prefer a more tranquil setting, an Airbnb or long-term hotel might be better for you.

If you’re traveling in a city, then you’ll want to choose a hotel with 24-hour front desk service and check-in/check-out capabilities. On the other hand, if you’re visiting a remote location, you may want to choose a hostel that offers gestures like homemade cake and wine or city maps. In the future, this market will continue to be driven by a desire for experiences (see Hilton’s pickleball courts) and less distinction between business and vacation travel. The growing trend of “bleisure” — tacking vacation days onto work trips — will also likely impact this sector. In fact, it’s already changing hotel offerings. For instance, Hyatt has a program called “Hyatt Has It” that offers guests things they might forget to pack, such as deodorant, bobby pins, and hairspray.
